However, thinking of this as merely a factory would be a big mistake - instead it is more an amusement park that keeps visitors well entertained. The lobby has a delicious fragrance from the confectionary being baked, and feels just like an art gallery. The first item of interest is the process by which the unagi pies are created, and this is engraved on a silver plate displayed as an objet-d'art on a marble wall. The plate opens to reveal a mural of artisans at work. Almost no automation is used in the process, and it takes 10 years for an artisan to become fully qualified. The process of artisans kneading the dough is illustrated here on the mural, because the way in which the unagi pies are folded into several thousand layers giving them their rich flavor is a trade secret. The next thing you see is a small glass window in the wall, through which you can see the pies being baked on a belt conveyer, and the application of the secret sauce that includes garlic. This appears just as a "moving picture". Fun in the factory, garlic in the sauceThe stairs have handrails in the shape of eels. Climb these to the lobby, from where you can look down on the packaging plant. The main attraction of the second floor is the "factory theater" that features the curious "Una-kun" character, who wears a headband, and who explains in detail how unagi pies are made. Next, the route goes through a tunnel called the "unagi bed", which shows on the walls everything there is to know about unagi pies. Find out about the origins of the famous catch phrase "sweets of the night" that are great for a break, and how the different trial products were thought of. Going through the tunnel, you see the unagi pie, and the unagi pie VSOP shaped like a surfboard, where you can take commemorative photos. Be amazed by this giant unagi pie, with the giant lettering on the packaging making it look just like the real thing. This is the end of the tour course, but the fun is not over yet. You can enjoy snacks and tea at the café on the second floor. As souvenirs, you can buy family sized packs not available elsewhere, and unique items such as unagi pie straps. Unagi pies, perfect for snacks. You will be amazed and entertained by everything Unagi Pie World has to offer! This is the fun of this new attraction. Be amazed and entertained. A fun new place to see! This is the most popular item in the café, and combines unagi pie from the Japanese-style confectioner Shunkado with vanilla ice-cream and strawberries to give an exquisite, uniquely French-style gustatory delight.
